Cafe in Paris : Cullier

A lot of you may know that I am a fan for coffee and I love going around looking for new cafés. So recently I have started exploring some cafés here in Paris and would really love to share it with everyone.

Cullier is a café that I bumped into when I was wandering around Montmartre at the 18th arrondissement. I was so attracted by the Parisian interior design, so I went in and got myself a cup of coffee. This café is new which was opened 2 weeks ago.

Their coffee prices range from 2.5Euro to 5 Euros.

The theme of the café is mainly black and white with a pinch of golden from the bulbs.
They have a list of coffee choices and some sweet bite and sandwiches. I personally tried their Chocolate cake which i really like it.

Although the cafe might look simple but it will definitely gives you feelings of being in Paris.

I like how the café allows me to feel so cozy and they offer different artistic books and magazines to read.

Journey To Paris.

Bonsoir,

I have finally arrived in the City of Love, Paris. The flight went well and I had a great rest. I took Emirates and transited in Dubai for 5 hours. One of the reason why i chose Emirates was because they upgrade passengers' seat if the flight is overbooked(atleast thats what I thought & what the people in the Internet says). haha. I have done so many research on how to get a free flight upgrades since 2 months ago. At one point I realized I was so concerned about all these little things and I forgot about the important things. I did asked at the check in counter saying that I would really appreciate it if they can consider me if they are upgrading any passengers. The staff told me they only upgrade priority passengers with platinum, Gold and Silver frequent flier card and guess what mine is Blue pretty much the lowest class and its my first time flying emirates so my point is ZERO. All my research were pretty much wasted. I even gave the staff chocolate after that, just to be nice. haha. I have heard so much about the Emirates A380. Its a double deck flight, not sure if thats how you call it. The First and business class are located on the first deck and the the economy class is at the lower deck. Tho I have lost hope in getting an upgrade. I still prayed to God for favor and grace. I never under estimate the grace of God in my life. The first 7 hours was a normal standard flight to Dubai. I got my bulkhead seat that I picked online few months back. It was spacious and more room space. A tip for those who wanna travel with Emirates. Remember to pick your seat online in advance. :)

My transit in Dubai wasn't too pleasant honestly because it was 2 am in Malaysia's time zone when I arrived in Dubai and I was so sleepy. The fact that I kept falling asleep and waking up to check on my belongings. I told myself the first thing I was going to do when I board was to SLEEP. Finally 5 hours has gone by, I boarded the famous A380 and as usual my bulkhead seat. While all the passengers were getting on board. A white guy sat next to me and the next moment his girlfriend was telling the air stewards that she was unhappy because her seat was separated from her "baby" aka boyfriend. The boyfriend then told us that they booked the bulkhead seat online long ago. While the air stewards were dealing with the girl. I told them that I am willing to give my seat to the girl and guess what, miracle just happened. The next moment, my boarding pass seat was changed from 45G to 10B and I was brought to the upper deck. The girl got upgraded but instead of taking it, she chose to stay with her baby and so I got upgraded to Business Class. The bed can be slant into 180 degree and just an hour ago when I was in dubai I texted my dad saying I got a back pain from the 7 hrs flight to dubai. I thought I was dreaming for a second. I couldn't believe it actually happened. God never fail to amaze me when I trust in him, not even once. They even have a lounge in the upper deck. It was superb nice. I was so overwhelmed and couldn't even sleep after that. God is just so good.

An Announcement.

Hi all,

I hope you stay till the end of the blog. :)

As some of you may know that I was away for almost 2 weeks. Here is an update on my trip. I was in korea for holiday and I would say it is the Country of the year for me. I did a lot of traveling this year and I have never travel so much in one year itself. Went To maldives, U.S, China, Korea and next week Sarawak. I love my life as a traveller, seriously.

I will definitely go back for Korea. The culture is one of the major thing that attracts me. Was so used to saying Anyeonghasaeyo that I came back doing the same. When I was there, I would sit in cafes and just think about life. Meeting new korean friends and just talk about our backgrounds and random topics. It somehow widens my perspective of life and what I want to do with my life. Met up my friends in myeongdong and I had my first experience at eating street food in a 5 degree night. Super cold but it was a amazing.

My dad once told me, life is too short to be wasted in things we don't like. Find your passion and you will never have to work. Open up your eyes and see the world. Because there is so much more out there than what we think we have.

Which bring me to the news that I want to announce next. It breaks my heart to say this but Ann's Wonderbar will stop taking orders completely starting on Christmas eve. Last order will be on the 23rd of December.

I will be furthering my studies in Patisserie at Le Cordon Bleu Paris. The school is located in Paris itself. So I will be flying over to fulfill my dreams and my passion. My desire to travel has lead me to choose Paris instead of staying in LCB KL.

Reason why I choose Patisserie? One word, PASSION. I do not want to lie to myself for the sake of being realistic and just get myself into any business school. Not to say that I don't like business subjects but I guess there is still something missing in there.

How do I know Patisserie is what I wanted? That bold feeling that I get when I made my decision for this. The inner peace. The satisfaction. I am someone that gives a damn about what others say but this time I couldn't bother what people may say. I know I will never regret doing this and I will thank myself 10, 20, or even 30 years later.

Honestly, it took me awhile to decide to go or not but I gotta thank God for his guidance. Without him I wouldn't be so sure with what I want.

Lastly, I just wanna say Thank you so much for all the support. To my family and my friends too. I think I have the most supportive friends. They found out that I am doing this online cake store and started introducing to their friend and placing orders just to show support. I couldn't thank them enough. You all know who you are.

I started taking orders from random online customers about 2-3 months back. I wanna say thank you for believing in me. Your feedbacks and encouragements are what keep me going.
I hope I can still bake for everyone in my remaining days in Malaysia.
And I hope you won't forget Ann's Wonderbar.

How it started.

Time really flies. As far as I am concern, my last post was in the beginning of August and guess what it is now beginning of November. I hope everyone is well. :)
Sorry I have been busy with my Uni applications.
Here is a quick blog update. I have been getting some questions from people lately. "Where did you learn all these baking skills ann?" "Have you been attending baking class?" "How did you do that?" "

So this is about how I started Ann's Wonderbar. I completed my A-Levels last year and while I try to figure out which Uni to apply, I bake in my free time. There was this time where I baked my mom a Chanel inspired Handbag cake. I posted the picture on Instagram and with no expectations I added "Orders are Welcome" at the end of my caption.

and this is how it all started. :)

I take it as a part time job while applying for universities.

To be honest, I have never attend any baking classes. Baking has been like a hobby since I was young. My mom loves to bake, so I guess I am influenced by her in some way. As well through all my past experiences I have learnt so much from them. Imagine how many cakes I have thrown into the garbage bin if I baked since I was young but thank God that I no longer have to do that. Haha.
Passion and curiosity play big roles in my life to be honest. To me, without passion you cannot go far. I have done a lot of research and study along my way. I experiment all my old and new recipes and modify them to bring out the optimum flavor. Never imagine that this will lead me to Ann's Wonderbar. This doesn't mean that I bake perfect cakes every time. I still fail sometimes but it has became my very own baking lesson where I can learn from my mistakes. I remember I once rushed for an order until 3am but the satisfaction is so much more when I see the smile of my customer. :)

My busiest days is 3-4 cakes a week so far, busy but productive I guess. Just a humble beginning, so I really gotta thank everyone that gave me the chance and believe in me. I am grateful and I am still learning everyday. I will be furthering my studies on January. I will announce the news in another blog regarding where I will be going. I always hope to bake the best for everyone of you because to see you enjoy what I made gives me joy.

Throw back to the Day Break Carnival. :)

Hope you enjoy reading. Cheers. :)

With Love,

Beauty from the inside out.

A thousand apologies for not updating my blog. Sorry, sorry and sorry.
I have been receiving a lot of Red Velvet orders lately to be honest. I gotta start experimenting something new soon ! So today my post is dedicated to my signature cake again, Red Velvet. I named this the beauty from the inside out because the outer was covered with roses of course and the inside was red in colour. So the other day I met up with a friend and he was telling me he wanted to order a cake to surprise his gf for their 1st anniversary. So sweet right. haha. Anyway, he told me his girlfriend loves Roses. Of course what came into my mind right away was this Roses red velvet cake and I could do a real ombré this time.

This wasn't my perfect hit to be honest because i gotta separate the cheese into 3 different colors and the cheese started getting runny as I mix the colors. It was a lot work but glad it came out well.

Looking at these roses makes me happy. haha. Can you feel the joy?
I also added some rose petals in the cake box to add a pinch of romantic in it. :)
ahh, If only there is a ring on top of the cake. It will look so perfect. hehe.

I am so happy when my friend told me that his girlfriend loves it and his family that doesn't like red velvet cake love it too ! This is where I get my motivation from. I don't mean that I will stop baking if I get a bad feedback. But knowing that my cakes made people happy keeps me going. At least I know my effort is paid off. :)

Below is another order for a birthday celebration.

I hope you enjoy reading. Feel free to drop me an email at annswonderbar@gmail.com for orders or for more information. Follow me on instagram ( annaticaxlee ) for more cakes updates. :)

Thank you and God bless. :)

You can steal all you want from me but you can never steal my creativity.

3 cakes in a Row

Ola everyone !

It has been a busy weekend and I have finally got the time to blog about the few orders I received last saturday. All the 3 orders I received were needed on saturday and to be honest, having just me and myself I have got no idea what I was going to do. But Thank God I managed to send them out in time.
So, the first cake I am going to blog about is a Chocolate Cake.

To be honest, I have got no clues on what I was going to do. My customer has requested for a chocolate cake and she mentioned that her mother loves chocolate. Just fyi, this is a birthday cake my customer ordered for her mom. So I thought why not decorate it with chocolate. I mean MORE chocolates. At last, I created some chocolate shapes with chocolate drizzles.

Just so you know, I scraped very piece of chocolate in the picture and the chocolate on the side which I called it the fence were made up of chocolate drizzle. Just hoping to see more details on the cakes itself rather than just normal ganache you see out there. (Ganache is the shinny layer of chocolate you can see on the chocolate cake U normally eat. It is made up of whipping cream and cooking chocolate.)

This is how it looks from the top. It is all covered with chocolate curls and I've completed the whole look by adding a red ribbon.

The second order that I am going to blog about is a full moon cupcake order. This customer wanted a combination of sweet colors. So I used yellow, light yellow, soft pink, sky blue, violet and so.

I didn't have any moulds so all of these were hand made. I gotta roll out the fondant piece by piece to create the 3D look especially the tiny feet here, it took me forever. The tiny little toes were just so time consuming but i guess it was worthy cause it was just so adorable. haha.

Alot of people may not know the hard work of the baker, it takes alot of time, effort and passion to create something like this. I started making them at 10.30 am and I got to bed at 2am the next day just to complete 2 orders. Pretty crazy but nothing beats the satisfaction I get when i look at these pictures. I hope you enjoy the pictures too. :)

Last order for that weekend was a kit kat cake.
I used those chocolate shapes I made earlier to cover the top and I added some little heart shape to it. This was also a birthday cake my customer ordered for her boyfriend. So I decided to use a heart shape pan.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy reading. Do contact annswonderbar@gmail.com for more informations.
Thanks again for your time and have a nice day ! :)
God Bless.

Roses Red Velvet Cake

Today i will be blogging about one of the order i received few days back. A customer was telling me about my instagram picture of the Red Velvet Roses Cupcakes and how she wished to try it. So what happened was she ordered the Red Velvet and requested it to be in an actual cake form.
and so this is what happened. . . . .

I created a rose cake for her. I wanted to do an ombré effect but I realize I have made too much deep pink frosting and there is nothing left for me to do the middle tone pink. So this became the end result.
Since its a Red Velvet cake, all the roses are made up of cream cheese. This was also the most challenging part because cream cheese frosting tends to melt and gets runny unlike butter frosting. I might have ruin the whole cake if these cream cheese got runny. So i gotta be quick and make sure the cheese are cold enough to frost.

I am pretty happy with how it looked and of course i am glad my customer love it too. To be honest, I was kinda worry how the texture might turns out because everywhere ran out of supply for buttermilk. So I decided to make my own buttermilk. LOL. and yes it is possible. The stores will probably charge u 8 bucks(600ml) for a really simple few steps buttermilk that you can literally create at home. But anyway, I was overwhelmed when she told me how well balanced the cake was and how much her family liked it. So grateful for her feedback. Wondering how it will be on the inside. Showing it to you in 3... 2 ... 1 ...

TA-DA ! :D

Picture from Customer

This cake itself is very soft and moist. It is definitely the kind of red velvet cake i would die for and i am serious. haha. Anyway, just in case u are curious about how heavy this cake was, this cake weight 2kg ++. This is just a 2-layer Red Velvet. I will try a 3-layer next time. ;)

Thank you for your time and have a nice day. :)
God Bless.
